Break progress

Began attaching the idea of tagging the prices after my crit. I am considering to do this for each outfit section. Pushing it to be transparent paper and you put it on the outfit to transition it from glamorous to be affordable and eco conscious glamourous. I could also show how this could work on the wesbite, social media marketing and posters.

Sorting the layout and content of the book.

Brainstorm of presentation is something I need to think about.

How can I evidently portray my presentation of the book to be sustainable?

Hard back? Soft cover?

Week 4 second showing feedback

After presenting the progress I have made in the past four weeks I received a range of feedback. I discussed that I am looking at pushing my work further than just a catalogue. I’m considering to maybe pushing it to a website or some type of way finding system proposal for thrift shops. Potentially a sort of task or test for my audience to use in order to make the experience less anxious and overwhelming as that was a common response from my survey. If it could potentially be that I could recommend brands or colours to look out for while shopping to help them narrow it down and make the experience smoother.

Along with this I explained the catalogue and how I’d show the diversity of an item of clothing that was purchased second hand. My peers and advisor responded well to this as they agreed that the book alone could be successful. They were sure to advise not to limit myself to just the catalogue but also not to push it too far with the amount of work I’m going to do. That a smaller quantity of work that would be completed to greater quality would be better.

With this however they said that with my ideas why not link them all to be one big project? To push it to be a campaign and the mag was a part of it. The feedback I received was highly beneficial and I felt encouraged to continue in the direction I am going. I am still trying to define exactly how I am going to progress this to my final piece of work but I feel much more on track and hope to have something to show for the week 6 reflection.

Surveying and peers opinions

Why? (for question 1)

More ethical

Cheap cheap cheap

Because there are already way to any clothes in this world, i haven’t felt the need to buy clothes new in years, except socks and undies, I think I find great joy in opshps when I find a treasure

Cheaper and more sustainable

Don’t use many clothes, but buy what I need when I need it, if I can find it at an op shop while needing it then that’s a win but often I’m requiring something specificI like my clothes to be fresh and crisp

Better deals

Better for the environment to recycle clothes

Because I’m lazy as fuck

I feel weird wearing secondhand clothesLess waste and usually cooler and cheaper choices.

I always shop online because I don’t like going out

Find more unique things

To stop the cycle of fast fashionJust prefer some online websites I’m into atm

Easier to shop onlineI like sustainable shopping. op shopping mean you find far move unique items and things that are less likely to have been mass produced. is also made especially easy with social media like Instagram and Facebook, as there are pages dedicated to reselling items to my demographic.

Variety

Because I can’t afford new clothes

Clothing takes up most of our landfill so we lookin out for the environment, some op shops have more of my style anyway and also fast fashion is fucked because the people making the clothing aren’t paid or treated fairly. AND it’s cool knowing you have a one of a kind piece as opposed to owning the same damn tee shirt as everyone else in New Zealand.

convenience – I don’t usually have the time to opshop

cheaper, more sustainable and a more individual style!

What about op shopping would you consider difficult?

Not having size options

Finding the right stee, filling through millions of whack items it’s draining but worth it when you get dat swag. Does recycle boutique count as op shopping? Cause I don’t think it is

Brands and hipsters have made them expensive

More blazed gears

I don’t have many difficulties with the op shop.

The smell of the shop maybe, but it’s not impossibleEmployee assistanceGiving time to finding items

Sometimes clothes smell gross

The fact that a lot of people do it now so it’s harder to find the goodies

The amount of products that are usually poorly organised.Knowing where to go and what to keep an eye out for

Sorting through the junkfinfing the right size

Finding things, often they are super similar to a jumble sale and it gives me anxiety to even start looking

I also thoroughly enjoy opshopping

Finding things that fit sometimes

Being too skuxx

I don’t think it’s difficult I actually think it’s fun going in there and seeing all the vintage pieces… sometimes it’s annoying tho bc they’re stained / ripped…

The bulk of clothing you have to get through

Only cluttered stores

When clothes aren’t sorted into different types it’s difficult to pinpoint clothes I’m specifically looking for

I’m a big girl so sometimes that makes it harder to find clothes for my body type

Going to all the op shops in an area and comparing prices

there is so much to choose from – can often be overwhelming

finding something you love that isn’t your size

What do you think would encourage you to thrift shop more often?

More shops in the CBD

More thrift shops? And not thrift shops that have been set up by some alty to sell at a marked up price cause that doesn’t count

Cheaper clothes, give them to the real op shops like the hospice or Sally’s

An op shop with a well categorised sizing system

More of them close by (knowing where they are too, maybe pop up), proper cheap ones that arent overpriced.

Online shopping fOnline access

Nicer presentation of clothes in shopsHaving things easier to browse through

Organisation within stores and more disposable income haha.

A thriftshop with a focus on men’s fashion, because thriftshops and opshops always have way more women’s clothing in stock

Better options to choose from/ less worn garmentsmore save mart

More op shops, online stores and a tidier floor

Online thrift stores, more thrift stores

More affordable prices in vintage shops

Being able to afford itI love thrift shopping but I find it that in nz things that are vintage and used are almost just as expensive as buying something new… but when I’m looking for vintage / different things I love it!

If I knew where to go without having to go to multiple places across the city

Better sorted and organised op shops as well as shops for higher quality second hand goods

Not necessarily sales but, idk maybe thrift events?

Something buzzy like that

Bigger sizes and also it annoys me when op shops sell second hand clothing for super expensive prices

Shops posting new stock on social mediaAn affordable opshop that has more curated pieces

having more money
